Search Prowers County Court Records
Prowers County court records are searched in layers. The Colorado Judicial Branch docket search is the public web starting point for hearing settings and case-number clues. It can show Prowers County District Court and County Court events, but it is not a full document portal. Pleadings, decrees, sentencing papers, probate documents, and certified copies must be requested from the court through the Colorado Judicial Branch record/document request form or the local Clerk of Court.
The state docket tool requires a date range and at least one more filter. Useful filters include Prowers County, 15th Judicial District, court type, party name, business name, attorney name, or a case number broken into year, case class, and sequence. When the docket does not show enough detail, Prowers County Combined Court can confirm the right request route.
- Open the Prowers County docket search or use the Prowers court page and choose Find Dockets.
- Select Prowers County, or choose the 15th Judicial District and then Prowers County.
- Choose District, County, or Both, based on the case type and how much is known.
- Pick a date range and add a second filter such as last name, business name, attorney, or case-number parts.
- Use the result card for hearing date, courtroom, appearance type, and case number, then request documents from the clerk if needed.
The Colorado Judicial Branch Prowers County page also links to payments, jury information, virtual courtrooms, livestream access, ADA accommodations, interpreter services, transcript requests, and court-record requests.
Prowers County Court System
Prowers County is part of Colorado's 15th Judicial District with Baca, Cheyenne, and Kiowa counties. Colorado uses both District Courts and County Courts in each county. In Prowers County, those state trial-court functions are housed through Prowers County Combined Court in Lamar. The District Court hears felony criminal cases, civil cases in any amount, domestic relations, juvenile, probate, and mental health matters. The County Court handles misdemeanors, traffic infractions, small claims, protection orders, felony complaints before transfer, and civil cases under the state County Court limit.
Lamar Municipal Court is a separate local court for city ordinance, municipal traffic, juvenile municipal, and city criminal matters. That split matters when a user tries to search Prowers County court records. A state traffic case may appear in the Colorado docket search, while a Lamar city citation may require the municipal court. Appeals move from District Court to the Colorado Court of Appeals in most cases, with the Colorado Supreme Court as the court of last resort.
| Level | Prowers County fit | Common records |
|---|---|---|
| District Court | 15th Judicial District trial court | Felony, civil, divorce, probate, juvenile, mental health |
| County Court | Limited state trial court | Misdemeanor, traffic, small claims, lower civil, protection orders |
| Lamar Municipal Court | City-funded municipal court | City traffic, ordinance, municipal criminal, city warrants |
| Colorado appellate courts | Statewide review courts | Appeals, opinions, mandates, appellate dockets |
Case flow: Lamar Municipal Court or Prowers County Court for lower matters, Prowers County District Court for general-jurisdiction cases, Colorado Court of Appeals for most appeals, then Colorado Supreme Court where review is granted or direct review applies.

Prowers County Record Types
Prowers County court records include more than one file type. A civil docket may show a complaint, answer, motions, hearing dates, judgment, satisfaction, or garnishment. A criminal case file may show charges, pleas, bond orders, motions, disposition, sentence, probation terms, restitution, and warrants. Domestic relations files are District Court records, while marriage licenses are held by the County Clerk and Recorder.
Probate files in Prowers County are District Court matters because Colorado has separate probate courts only in Denver. Traffic files may be in Prowers County Court or Lamar Municipal Court depending on whether the citation is a state or city case. Juvenile, adoption, mental health, protected-party, and some probate records are not treated like ordinary public case files.
- Civil records: County Court and District Court files for disputes, small claims, judgments, and higher-value civil cases.
- Criminal records: Felony matters in District Court and misdemeanors or felony complaints in County Court.
- Family records: Divorce, custody, support, and dissolution records filed as District Court domestic relations cases.
- Probate records: Estates, wills, guardianships, conservatorships, and related District Court probate filings.
- Traffic records: State traffic cases in County Court and city traffic matters in Lamar Municipal Court.
Prowers County Docket Fields
The official docket-search page is useful because it shows the real filters a searcher can use. The inspected Prowers one-week search showed 221 results on July 13, 2026, with fields for dates, names, case numbers, hearing types, locations, appearance types, and courtrooms. It did not show downloadable pleadings or orders.
| Field | How it helps |
|---|---|
| County and courthouse | Narrows the search to Prowers County Combined Court. |
| Court type | Filters District Court, County Court, or both. |
| Date range | Required date filter, from today through six months or a specific date. |
| Case class | Uses Colorado class codes such as CR, M, T, DR, PR, S, and CV. |

The captured Prowers County docket search image shows the state form and sample result cards rather than a county-run case-document portal.
The same state court site is also the route to virtual courtrooms, payments, livestreams, interpreter requests, transcript requests, and Prowers County court services.
Prowers County Public Access
Public access to Prowers County court records is controlled by court rules and Colorado law. The Colorado Judicial Branch access guide points users to Chief Justice Directive 05-01, P.A.I.R.R., and the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act. For county administrative records outside court case files, Prowers County uses its CORA process under C.R.S. 24-72-201 et seq.
Remote access is not the same as full file access. CJD 05-01 allows public electronic access to certain information, including party names, county, scheduled court date and time, judgments, orders, decrees, criminal charges, pleas, findings, sentences, and a list of filed documents. It does not mean addresses, phone numbers, victim data, witness data, protected financial details, juvenile names, or free-text confidential fields are public online.
Key access rules: C.R.S. 24-72-201 et seq. covers county administrative records, C.R.S. 24-72-301 et seq. covers criminal justice records, C.R.S. 13-1-119 addresses judgment records and registers of actions, and Chief Justice Directive 05-01 governs court-record access.
Restricted Prowers County Records
Some Prowers County court records are public only in part. Juvenile records are governed by Colorado's Children's Code and CJD 05-01. Adoption records are not ordinary public domestic-relations files. Mental health proceedings, some probate matters, protected-party information, victim details, witness information, minor identities, and financial account data may be redacted or withheld.
Sealed and expunged records require care. A sealed adult criminal record still exists, but it is hidden from ordinary public access. Courts, law enforcement, and criminal justice agencies may retain access even after sealing. The 15th Judicial District Attorney page links to Colorado sealing forms, including rules for cases that were dismissed, not charged, acquitted, or otherwise eligible under the packet.
Note: Suppressed cases, juvenile records, probate records, and protected documents may require government photo ID before release.
Prowers County Clerk Split
Prowers County has two clerk tracks. Becky Fletcher is the Clerk of Court, Jury Commissioner, and Probate Registrar for Prowers County Combined Court. That office handles court case-file access, docket-document requests, jury administration, and probate registry functions. Jana Coen is the elected Prowers County Clerk and Recorder, which is a county office for recorded instruments, elections, motor vehicle, marriage licenses, and county-held records.
The county recorder uses a Tyler-hosted real-estate self-service portal. That portal can help with recorded land and county recorder indexes, but it is not a Prowers County court records search. Users looking for a divorce decree, criminal sentence, civil judgment, or probate order should use court channels, not the recorder index.
| Office | Main custodian role | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Clerk of Court | Colorado Judicial Branch court clerk | Case documents, certified court copies, probate registry, jury questions |
| County Clerk and Recorder | Prowers County elected clerk | Marriage licenses, recorded instruments, elections, motor vehicle, county records |
| Sheriff | Law-enforcement custodian | Incident reports, jail reports, archived jail records, sheriff records requests |
Prowers County Criminal Records
Criminal records in Prowers County can involve several offices. The court case file is held by the Clerk of Court after a case opens. The sheriff may keep incident, accident, arrest, and jail records. The 15th Judicial District Attorney prosecutes crimes on behalf of the people of Colorado and receives law-enforcement reports as discovery. The Colorado State Public Defender La Junta office serves Prowers County defendants who qualify for appointed counsel.
The Prowers County Sheriff's Office records page explains that each jail booking starts a folder that can include court appearances, medical documents, photos, and billing. The official sources did not identify a public Prowers County jail roster search. For custody status, users should contact the sheriff or jail, use the Colorado DOC offender search for state prison custody, and use the federal BOP locator for federal custody.
The Prowers County detention page identifies the jail administrator and confirms the local detention layout.
County identity and geography help explain why most records routes cluster in Lamar, where the courthouse, sheriff, jail, District Attorney, and city court are close together.
Prowers County Warrants and Traffic
No official Prowers County Sheriff's Office active warrant search was found in the official research sources. Lamar Municipal Court does publish a city warrant page. It explains that municipal bench warrants can issue for failure to appear or failure to comply with court orders, and that Lamar adds a $50 warrant fee by court order. County or District Court warrants must be confirmed through the court or sheriff, not assumed from a public web list.
Traffic records also split by venue. Prowers County Court handles state traffic infractions and traffic misdemeanors. Lamar Municipal Court handles city traffic, city ordinance, juvenile, and municipal criminal cases. Some Lamar traffic violations are payable before appearance, while criminal traffic offenses follow a rights advisement and plea process. The Colorado Judicial Online Payment System may accept eligible Prowers County state-court payments, and payments after 4:00 p.m. apply the next business day.
Driver records are separate. Colorado DMV motor vehicle records can show license status, CDL status, tickets and traffic convictions, reinstatement requirements, suspensions, revocations, and administrative stops. A court traffic record is the case file. A DMV record is the driver-history file.
Prowers County Marriage and Probate
Marriage licenses are handled by the Prowers County Clerk and Recorder, not the Clerk of Court. Applicants must meet the county's ID, presence, age, social-security, prior-marriage, and return rules. The fee located in the research is $30, payable by cash or credit card. No licenses are issued after 4:00 p.m., and the completed license must be returned to Prowers County within 65 days after solemnization.
Divorce records are different. Colorado calls divorce dissolution of marriage, and Prowers County divorce files are District Court domestic-relations records. The docket search uses the DR case class for domestic relations, and full decrees or permanent orders are requested through the court record/document process. Probate is also a District Court function in Prowers County. The docket search includes PR for probate, but protected-person, guardianship, conservatorship, and sensitive financial or medical details may be restricted.
Prowers County Records Fees
Research found clear county fees for marriage licenses and sheriff records, but not a Prowers-specific court-document copy fee or probate filing fee. The safest court-document path is to use the state request form or call Prowers County Combined Court before assuming a per-page charge. Sheriff records have a published fee schedule for law-enforcement and jail documents.
| Record or service | Amount found | Office |
|---|---|---|
| Marriage license | $30.00 | County Clerk and Recorder |
| Offense, incident, accident, ticket, law-enforcement, or jail report | $7.00 first 10 pages, then $0.25 per additional page | Sheriff's Office |
| Audio, video, or digital photos copied to CD | $10.00 per CD | Sheriff's Office |
| Archived or employee files | $15.00 first 10 pages, then $0.25 per additional page | Sheriff's Office |
| Reasonable victim records request | Free of charge | Sheriff's Office |
Prowers County Courthouse History
The Prowers County Building, also known as the Prowers County Courthouse, is listed in the National Register material as a public government building at 301 South Main Street. The second courthouse project began in 1927 because the older courthouse no longer met county needs. The new building was dedicated on August 7, 1929, with parades, fireworks, dances, and a former governor's address.
The nomination describes gray Indiana limestone, a granite water table, three stories, projecting end pavilions, fluted pilasters, a pedimented entrance, bronze doors, leaded glass, brass lanterns, terrazzo floors, brass railings, coffered ceiling panels, and carved cattle-brand imagery. The same building now supports modern Prowers County records access, including state court, county clerk, and other government-office routing.
